I’ve been called a lot of things. But… an EVANGELIST??? There were worse, but I thought you all might get a laugh out of that one.
This is not a new concept to me, but it was really hit home today just how goddamned scared everyone is. Fear is where the hatred comes from. Fear is where the name-calling comes from. Fear is the single largest problem of our world today.
This morning, I had just woken up, and still bleary-eyed walked into the lion’s den. A lot of you probably will assume you know where this was, and who was there, but you’re all wrong. Be careful of assumptions, they’re dangerous. And it’s what i ran into this morning, when a friend was checking out the Thom Hartmann chatroom on his site.
Now, I think Thom Hartmann is an intelligent rational radio personality, so I was a little surprised by what I found in his chatroom. Not all of them, but the majority were clinging onto their left/liberal views so tightly that any discussion that wasn’t a gushing agreement, was met with put-downs, assumptions and name-calling.
I have seen this on both “sides”. And I don’t care what sides we’re talking about: democrat/republican, right/left, liberal/conservative, christian/muslim, american/mexican, it doesn’t matter. People are hanging onto their little piece of belief so hard, they’re unwilling to even LISTEN to what the other side has to say. It truly is the “if you’re not with me, you’re with the evil-doers” mentality.
If you agree with one particular little stand that one side takes, that seems to automatically mean that you must agree with EVERY single vew that that side takes. There mustn’t be any picking and choosing according to what YOU THINK makes sense. Don’t be basing your views on your own personal opinons. God forbid you think outside the box.
I want you to take a look at what you believe. I mean really take a look. Have you researched BOTH sides? And not just the one side convincing you what the other side might argue, but truly looking at the facts independent of a side?
If not, are you WILLING to?? We can all get the info that the media spoonfeeds us. That’s easy. But… we also all have access to the internet. It is not yet censored (too heavily anyway). If these things are important to you, then look at the data. Follow the trails back from the opinions to the facts.
LET GO of your belief for just a moment. I don’t care what belief. Just pick one that you are in any way, shape or form, passionate about. Let it go and step outside of it. Now look in at it, and listen to the debate. You can’t argue against the other side, if you don’t understand where the other side is coming from.
You can’t think logically and rationally if you believe since a=b and c=d that a always =d. (C’mon, don’t play math illiterate with me here, that was a simple equation.)
Whatever “side” you consider yourself to be on? By default, for the simple fact that you see things as sides, you think the other side is wrong, and you’re afraid that the other side, wrong as they might be, will gain a foothold and take over and omg how scary that is for the OTHER SIDE to win!!!
And don’t think that by keeping quiet about your beliefs that you’re left out of this. Keeping quiet is a good way of not getting involved in discussion, not gaining possible information you didn’t have before.
I’d like everyone that reads this to throw down one of their beliefs. Comment to this blog and state your “side” on a particular issue. Feel free to comment to other people’s comments. Let’s just see if we can have intelligent discussion about hot topics WITHOUT name-calling. Please? Wash away this disgust I have for humanity right now. Show me that there are actual rational logical thinking people out there that I’ve surrounded myself with. Thank you.
