Screw the critics! They won’t be previewing THIS film and telling us whether we should go see it or not. Put your thumbs away criticman because WE the people will be doing the judging. And it’s only fitting for Killers, a film starring the King of the social interwebs, Ashton Kutcher (@aplusk) with co-star Katherine Heigl.
Ashton and director Rob Luketic (@RobLuketic) brought us along on this cinematic journey from the beginning, tweeting and streaming the whole way. We watched, glued to our monitors, as Ashton’s character raced along dangerous curves in a sports car with a helicopter in close pursuit. We shivered sympathetically when he jumped into the cold Mediterranean waters. We jumped, startled when an office explosion shook the walls and things flew, narrowly missing the camera. We rode along via Rob’s iphone strapped onto a dolly, down the aisles of a big department store. We laughed as Ashton tried in vain to find someone to take his dare to… uh… ok well we were educated as Ashton read the instructions on a.. oh, um, we won’t go there either, you really had to be there. And we WERE! We formed friendships among the others watching like us. And we became fans.
The credits that roll at the end of a film go on forever. You won’t see MY name on that list, but I feel like I was a part of it, because I was there, virtually!
When the trailer was released, we all watched and squeeled “Oooh! I remember that!.. And that too!” throughout the entire thing. Here is a film, that without having seen ANY outside advertising, has me chomping at the bit to pay to go see. Think about that.
In yet another unprecedented move, the journey continues. We will be allowed to watch the first 13 minutes of Killers online on Facebook (http://facebook.com/killersmovie). Remember, the critics have not yet seen the film.
Lionsgate, well done. While most studios are now including clauses in their contracts strictly forbidding any tweeting or facebook updates during filming, you have embraced it and I for one, hope they recognize your example as a success and follow suit. And we will follow THEM… and RT them, and if they do it half as well as @RobLuketic and @aplusk did, we will become their fans as well. Welcome to decade of the social interwebs.

Well said Julie! It was fabulous to of been given such an opportunity to be ‘behind the scenes’, literally, as we watched the making of this movie. Has it been over a year now? And all of us on Twitter still keep in touch.
Rob if you’re reading this, you brought so many of us together so for that alone, thank you. Because there’s some pretty awesome twitter peeps that are friends now. And the fact that you included us and really let us ‘in’, well, what else can I say but YOU ROCK!!
Here’s to a fabulous premier!!

You nailed it! I remember seeing the set construction, watching as they spent hours creating them for but a few seconds on the film. It gave me a new appreciation for what it takes to make a movie – not just memorizing lines/scripts, but the artistic talent that everyone brings to a 2 or 3 hour movie. The preparation was enormous, the dedication through rain and shine was incredible. I too was there, and grateful to
Rob @Robluketic and Ashton @aplusk for opening the world of film-making to all of us. And you’re right, it does make you want to see the movie having experienced it in “Real Time” during it’s creation. I hope the rest of Hollywood will come to understand the value of fans having “ownership” of these movies. I can’t wait to see it!!! Thanks, Julie
Better late than never considering the date of this blog I was, oh, um out of town & sitting in front of the Arclight
Can we add this to twittourage.com? Way cool story you should post there. I was rolling when I saw the scene in KMart because all I could think of was Ashton & his “educating us” on…well yup people had to be there to get it. LOL! Just seeing the scene alone even as it began I just busted out laughing & I got the “what is she laughing so hard over?” look. And it’s one of those “you really had to be there to get why I’m laughing so hard.”
I always loved it when Rob would drop a few swear words & of course bring us Jackson his beloved K9 son.
Well said Jewels!
